Dragi cititori. La 3 ani şi două luni de la apariţie, gazeta noastra a început să aibă în mod firesc şi previzibil succes. Dovada este telefonul pe care l-am primit ieri la redacţie, în care vocea unei femei aparent tinere, fără pistrui, cu ochi maro după timbrul vocal, a început să gângurească următoarele vorbe suave:
- Sunteţi domnul Chilote? Celebrul Don “the don” Chilote?
- Da, am zis eu înmărmurit.
- Ştiţi, felul în care scrieţi… vigoarea… forţa penelului… îmi dau pur şi simplu fiori. Mă fac să mă trezesc în fiecare zi cu zâmbetul pe buze şi să văd viaţa cu alţi ochi.
- Mă bucur nespus, am zis. Să ne întâlnim, vă propun.
Acum probabil ştiţi că arhetipurile masculine se conţin unele pe altele. Şi e foarte posibil ca un Don Chilote de succes să înglobeze un Casanova latent, sau un Casanova latent să includă un Iuda nedescoperit. Orice e posibil.
Ne-am întâlnit la Capşa, locul perfect pentru un asemenea rendez-vous mai subit decat un fulger globular din pădurea Baciului. Am comandat alune răscoapte şi viezure de albină, delicatesele locului. Cand a apărut şi pretendenta Dulcinee, am încremenit. La cei numai 48 de ani pe care i-am detectat în mod Holmesian, era mai acră ca o prună de Medgidia. Am încercat să mă prefac că eu nu sunt eu, dar scutul de aramă creat de căldărari pricepuţi de prin părţile Mehedinţi-ului, m-a dat de gol.
M-a sorbit din ochii într-adevăr maro.
- Vă apreciez în mod deosebit, a susurat, ca şi cum discuţia telefonică nici nu se terminase. Şi pe colegul dumneavostră, Fugaru, ah, cât de subtil transpar din subtextele dumnealui principiile freudiene ale plăcerii… apoi, juxtapunerea umoristică pe care o creează e de masură să trezească în mine… cum să vă spun… un adevărat catharsis epicureic… înţelegeţi ce vreau să spun.
Situaţia era de-a dreptul udă. M-am ridicat febril, cerând nota. Nota 4, a spus chelnerul privind-o cu dezgust pe doamna care se zvârcolea cuprinsă de spasme, pe canapea. 
Am iesit în grabă, ascunzându-mi privirea cât mai adânc sub pălăria de fetru din piele de şarpe din ochi de vultur.
Concluzia a fost tristă. S-au dus vremurile de altadată. Atunci, dacă scriai bine, erai apreciat de cele mai frumoase femei ale vremii. În ziua de astăzi percutează mai mult doamnele stafidite, pentru care un rând bine aşternut pe hârtie înseamnă automat un aşternut bine rânduit în apartamentul confort trei în care locuieşte singură de cinci ani.
Nu, mulţumesc. Atenţie, colega Fugaru, anumite doamne din înalta societate ne vor răul.
